Tech Evolution in Oil & Gas for Health & Safety Measures

Labourers in the worldwide oil and gas industry are presented with outrageous physical and mental difficulties in conditions with severe security risks. In addition, safety and health regulations have become more stringent, and organisations that do not adhere to them risk severe penalties, legal action, and negative publicity.
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the oil and gas industry has a seven times higher fatality rate that of all the other industries, demonstrating the health and safety hazards for workers if proper procedures are not followed.
Oil and gas sites host several heavy machinery, masts and rigs, stored hazardous chemicals, and highly flammable by-products. The well-being of the workers relies on the self-awareness and managerial efficiency of the industry.
Additionally, accidents in the oil and gas industry can also be costly from a business perspective. Twenty-one thousand eight hundred ninety-nine days of work were lost due to injuries in the companies that took part in the study, according to the IOGP report. There are a lot of fast-moving vehicles, machinery, and equipment in factories and plants worldwide, which could put frontline workers in danger.
Accidents continue to occur frequently, mostly involving younger workers with less experience, despite the existence of safety and compliance regulations. The International Labour Organization estimates that 313 million on-the-job accidents result in prolonged absences from work each year, resulting in a $3 trillion economic loss to the global economy.
"Digital transformation can make Oil and Gas companies more profitable, increase worker safety, help society by reducing emissions and water use, and save customers money."
Key Challenges to Health and Safety at Oil and Gas Industry Fatalities
"Caught in, under, or between" incidents, which exclude incidents involving dropped objects, accounted for most deaths in the oil and gas industry. Twelve people died in 2019 due to incidents that were "caught in, under, or between." Despite a decline in fatalities, there is still a steep incline in the frequency of accidents every year. Such incidents and the resulting injuries and fatalities harm the industry's reputation while inflicting significant emotional and psychological trauma on the victims and their loved ones.
Workers must receive training to understand the risks of falling, falling into confined spaces, being stuck or pulled into by machinery, electrical hazards, explosions, chemical exposure, and potential vehicular accidents. Workers' health risks include hearing impairment, frostbite, severe burns, respiratory problems, acute fatigue, and harm caused by moving heavy cargo and extreme work environments, often in remote locations. Workers must also be capable of handling so-called “fly in, fly out” procedures, which require them to travel to far-flung places for predetermined periods and work long shifts.
Latest Technological Trends to Promote Health and Safety in the Oil and Gas Industry
Explosion-Proof Technology
One of the key reasons for industrial explosions is system malfunction and electrical issues in the equipment used. Owing to the explosive environment of hazardous industries like oil and gas, even the smallest spark contacting the atmosphere can result in a huge explosion. Thus, modern oil and gas industries require advanced surveillance and safety solutions. Ex-proof technology for cameras and lights helps contain the sparks inside the wiring of the device and helps avoid fatal explosions and accidents. With continuous R&D, the current ex-proof market offers a range of explosion-proof lights and oil and gas video surveillance options to suit your diverse needs based on industrial size, purpose, etc.

Robots are primarily employed for inspection and surveillance in key hazardous zones to minimise the chances of human error, automate the operations, and reduce the liability costs in case of accidents. Additionally, drones are employed for inspecting inaccessible areas, particularly the off-shore sites, where there is a higher risk for fatalities. Thus, drones and robots enhance safety and efficiency significantly in the oil and gas sector by minimising the role of human crew in high-risk operations.
IoT-Based Monitoring
Internet of Things (IoT) technology has transformed the way oil and gas industries perceive “efficient operations”. IoT sensors provide real-time data about potential leaks and system malfunctions, enabling managers to ensure minimum-risk operations through remote monitoring. The IoT data provides real-time insights without exposing the crew to high-risk environments, optimising resource management and saving business costs involved in anomalies. Today, IoT-based monitoring is used for several purposes in the oil and gas industries, including, monitoring of pumps, pipes, and filters to avoid costly leaks and give workers a better sense of control over their operational performance.
AR and VR Integration in Operations
A study by McKinsey on the oil and gas sector reveals a 25% cost-cut per barrel by adopting digital solutions like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). For enhanced maintenance, several oil and gas industrialists adopt AR solutions like AR headsets for remote monitoring and hands-free instructions to replace lengthy manuals with engaging graphical data. Additionally, VR headsets provide training to the crew in simulations instead of live hazardous environments, reducing on-site casualties and optimising safety training in the oil and gas industry.
Cloud Computing
The adoption of cloud computing technology in the oil and gas industry is a highly recommended solution by industry experts to efficiently handle the large volume of raw data that these industrial sites receive daily. Storing and processing data remotely frees local memory and expands the device’s computation capacity. This enhances the efficiency, security, and scalability of every day operations at the oil and gas industry.
Blockchain Technology
Web3 is a relatively new technological trend that is gradually getting integrated into hazardous industrial sectors like oil and gas. The transparency of the blockchain technology of web3 is key to its rapid adoption for a multitude of purposes. When translated to the oil and gas industry, blockchain technology can enhance security and transparency in digital transactions and official documentation through smart contracts. This added layer of transparency significantly improves business communication, resolves legal disputes, and builds trust in the ethical practices of a company. Thus, experts believe blockchain technology is key to sustaining business relations in the upcoming years.
Importance of Technology in the Oil and Gas Industry
Enhanced Efficiency
Through technological evolution, the security standards and worker safety measures in oil and gas industries have found their new apex. Where AI enables system optimisation, IoT can provide a real-time data feed, and smart video analytics reduce the system clutter and make operations significantly more efficient than traditional systems.
Optimised Safety
Smart detection of hazards and adverse situations counters the manual shortcomings in monitoring and surveillance to create a safer work environment in hazardous industries by making them less prone to accidents and liabilities caused by fatigue and human error.
Reduced Business Costs
As discussed above, modern technological integrations significantly reduce the business costs of the oil and industry. Multitude of integrations co-create safer work environments either through automation or remote monitoring. Besides the direct cost of damages and compensations, technological advancement in the oil and gas industry helps prevent indirect costs like legal proceedings, training of human resources, etc.
Sustainable Solutions
Modern technology serves a larger purpose of sustainability by reducing the emissions through AI, IoT, and big data analytics. By identifying the triggers for accidents beforehand, technology controls explosions and its resulting adverse impact on the environment as well as crew health and well-being.

title: love at first watch 📸💥

tags: swearing, nsfw themes, timeskip, actress reader

Ever since he was a kid he had a fascination with your works or more specifically you. Bakugou would watch whatever films you were in that he could find. Even one’s his friends back then deemed as “Girly”. None of that mattered to him if it meant getting to watch you, endlessly. His parents more specifically his mom teased that he watches you equally if not more than All Might. Fanboying to the point of watching the same videos over and over and over.
He actually got into one of your press conferences for an upcoming film you starred in. Not after begging and whining to his parents that he needed to go or he’d die. Buzzing with excitement as he watched you answer questions. He wasn’t lucky enough to be chosen to ask one himself but the merch and meet and greet made up for it. When he saw you upclose for the first time he froze in place, seeing you smile at him, HIM. You were talking so beautifully but his brain quite literally stopped functioning so he doesn’t remember exactly what you said which made him want to bang his head on a wall afterwards.
As he got older he stopped watching as much because he had to focus on a lot of other things like becoming the number one hero. He actually pretended that he didn’t watch you anymore so his parents would stop teasing about his so-called first love. But all it took was leaving one of your shows playing on the TV and he’d stop whatever he was doing to watch it. All he wanted was a glass of water and now he's finishing a whole season of one of your shows. As the credits rolled he’d turn around to see the mischievous grin his mom had and tried to defend himself but alas, the proof is in the pudding.
When he finally moved into the dorms he didn’t bring a lot of stuff from his old room, except of course the essentials. But he did get one of his All Might posters and maybe, JUST MAYBE, all of the merch he’d gathered throughout the years of his favorite actress, shoving all of it under his bed, to ensure that no one knew his weakness. He was not gonna go through that again.
Actually Bakugou tried to erase his crush on you at one point around third year since he started getting way unholy thoughts. He wanted to love you and he still did, still does but he wanted to fuck you now too. He can’t remember the amount of times he imagined himself bending you to all kinds of positions. Late nights where he should be sleeping and he’s there rubbing one out to you, again. Fuck.
When he finally graduated he worked a ton to make himself known, to become a prominent pro. Though fighting off villains and saving citizens wasn’t enough however. There were also the interviews, in particular one that blew up for other reasons aside from his explosive nature was one where he let it slip about his crush on you.
“So Mr. Dynamight, a lot of fans want to know if there’s anyone you're interested in right now?”
Truly it was an accident, from the beginning he was tired of the dumbass questions he didn’t care about so he was just mindlessly answering without a care and there he uttered your name. He was then insistently asked to expand upon that and well he just briefly half willingly explained how it started, not how long it's been. But fans scoured the internet and there photos of you together when you were way younger resurfaced, of him attending that one press conference years ago. One where it was you smiling next to him while he stood looking at you as if you were the most ethereal being he’d ever seen and another with him looking at the camera this time but not having the greatest expression picture perfect wise.
You come to find out about this fact when a trend pops on all media sites and articles titled. “DYNAMIGHT FIRST LOVE!” or “TOP 5 PRO CRUSH REVEALED???” even “YEARNING YEARS – EMOTIONAL!!!” and a bunch more. It totally surprised you since you’ve also been a fan of his since he was just an up and coming hero from U.A. you explained as well in an interview that would inevitably bring the topic up. Talking about how you’ve attended his own conferences back then and even went to his booths during the hero cons, showing photos of you in a mask and hat with friends.
When Bakugou heard that he combusted, sure maybe there was a subconscious goal he had to become so known you knew of him but he never thought he’d actually hear you acknowledge his existence. Well since he now knows you know of him and like him enough despite his “Brash” attitude he’s damn sure gonna shoot his shot and boom that’s how you two got together. Of course after hiding the relationship for a couple years before revealing and exploding the internet once again.

TwitTwit
dynaupdates: he got the girl. *attatched photos of you two together from your instagrams confirming the relationship*
— beminey/n: SOMEBODY NERF HIM??? NUMBER ONE HERO AND NOW YOU WANT THE NUMBER ONE GIRL?? GRRRR ARF ARFF

Mel has magic armor and chose to save Jayce, but she's keeping it a secret from him
First frame of episode 1: something is glowing gold
The camera is blurry because this is Jayce's POV and he's reeling from the explosion. The camera focuses enough to let us see Jayce's face. He's holding Mel. We see her gold pieces in the same location as the glowing gold parts in the previous frame.
Jayce focuses. He clearly doesn't know how he ended up in this position. He blinks in confusion, then sees Mel.
Mel's back is still to the window. Jinx's rocket literally was going to hit her directly in the back. Jayce is in the wrong place to have put his body between her and the rocket.
We're made to think that Jayce, being a big strong guy, somehow protected Mel from the explosion. But there's nothing a human body can do against a whole entire rocket. How did Mel survive, but also, how did Jayce survive? His survivor's guilt torments him.
Mel is sad for him and tells him simply that it's senseless that one person survives while another person dies or is injured. The quickest way out of needing to provide an explanation is to point out that no explanation is needed.
Jayce probably thinks that he, like the audience is supposed to believe, had a hand in protecting Mel, because he doesn't wonder how Mel survived.
Mel's gold parts were glowing. It's definitely armor. And for SOME REASON, she's not telling Jayce. And I really want to know what that reason is. And I would also really like to know how Mel feels about having had the power to choose one person to save, because I can think of one feeling that's worse than survivor's guilt.
One final piece of proof:
In the Council scene in episode 1, there's a fair amount of emphasis placed on the stone floor, which is mostly destroyed and riddled with cracks. This is to emphasize Salo's wheelchair as well as Piltover and its Council literally crumbling under their feet. However:
In the lower right corner, we see a PERFECT CIRCLE of untouched stone. Even that part of the Council table is intact. Everything else is cracked or destroyed or covered in ash. But not the spot where Mel and Jayce were. Also recall that Fortiche has said that a perfect circle represents the Arcane.
We get a glimpse of it again in episode 3:
The floor is cracked everywhere except in the lower right.
#arcane#mel medarda#jayce talis#mel arcane#spoilers#arcane spoilers#arcane s2#mel is probably just trying to let jayce get past his grief and survivor's guilt first#but i kind of hope there's another reason and that her armor is something VERY SPECIAL#i love mel so much what is going on in my girl's head

alcoholic hallucinosis
bucktommy, m, 2k words. read on ao3 Alcohol has dulled his sense and alertness enough that alarm bells don't immediately go off when the camera tilts back to reveal a wider shot of Buck's wooden headboard. It's only when the video shakes and refocuses on a familiar head of chestnut curls that Eddie begins to regret every life decision that brought him to this particular moment. (In which Eddie receives an unsolicited, accidental sex tape.)
Eddie is 12 hours into a 48 off when his phone pings with a new text notification.
Outside, the blue haze of daylight has lifted to reveal the moon. He's been languishing on the couch with a drink and bad TV as his sole company for longer than initially planned. There's a tiny gulp of amber liquid left at the bottom of his Glencairn glass where grains of charred wood have started to sediment. It's the barrel-proof stuff, casket-aged and bold and explosively flavorful, pricy and usually reserved for special occasions.
Eddie isn't the type to indulge for no reason, but he figures he deserves a treat after dealing with Gerrard's machiavellian schemes at work and withering familial radio-silence courtesy of his son. The text he's sent this morning — three whole paragraphs detailing his week and asking about Christopher's new friends and the robotics club he's joined — had only garnered a thumb-up in response
So it's 9:48pm and Eddie is 2 fingers away from buzzed, and he's watching fictional characters make mistakes more disastrous than his own stupid blunders with a pleasant fog cushioning his thoughts, eyelids heavy and guards down, and naturally that’s when Buck decides to send a cryptic video his way.
Eddie is used to receiving pictures and random factoids and links to obscure forums whenever Buck descends into one of his manic research deep dives, but they usually come with some key context. The newest addition to their chat log is a lone clip, with no caption or introduction or explanatory details. It's about 12 minutes long and the preview thumbnail is mostly indecipherable: brown, blurry with motion and too close to the lens for identification.
Against his better judgement, Eddie shrugs, mutes the TV and taps play on the video file.
Alcohol has dulled his sense and alertness enough that alarm bells don't immediately go off when the camera tilts back to reveal a wider shot of Buck's wooden headboard. It's only when the video shakes and refocuses on a familiar head of chestnut curls that Eddie begins to regret every life decision that brought him to this particular moment. His eyes bug out as he tries to compute what he's seeing unfold in rapid increments, something like dread settling in the pit of his stomach.
On his screen and in his hand and in HD resolution, Buck’s right cheek is smashed into a pillow, face sweaty and so red his birthmark no longer stands out against the backdrop of his skin. His mouth is an open wound gasping for air, and there are thick-knuckled fingers twisted in his hair, keeping him down. His brows are furrowed like he's in agony, except that's not pain twisting his features; it's not the expression that haunts Eddie from a half-dozen near tragedies and hospital visits — no, that's a face crumpled in uncomplicated pleasure.
“Arch up, sweetheart,” comes out of the tiny speakers, and that's Tommy's voice, laced with something unrecognizable, low and warm and whiskey-soaked like the scotch Eddie has been sipping all evening; loud because he’s holding the phone this was filmed on, because that's his hand cradling the back of Buck’s skull, big and proprietary and unrelenting. “Give me something nice to look at.”
Eddie's entire central nervous system shuts down after hearing that request, and he’s left gaping at his screen, stunned stupid, staring unblinkingly and in morbid fascination the way passerbys might gawk at a car crash, awful but ultimately fascinating.
Distantly, Eddie wonders if he’s perhaps experiencing some acute form of alcoholic hallucinosis.
Now, he’s borne witness to his fair share of disturbing sights throughout the years — viscera and gore, absurd accidents and gruesome deaths. With two military tours under his belt, he’s developed quite the steel core; Eddie knows how to push past shock to go through necessary motions. Still, no amount of training and field experience could've prepared him for this, because in the next second the video frame shifts again, pans down Buck’s neck and the broad expense of his back and along the sine wave of his spine—
And yep. That's definitely a POV shot of Eddie’s best friend taking it up the ass.
When his synapses start firing again a heartbeat later, horror cuts through the petrified and intoxicated daze clouding Eddie’s brain like a punch to the sternum, sudden and sobering.
“Oh my God!” he screams, shrill and panicked and undignified, and then does the instinctual thing, which is to toss his phone across the room like it's contaminated by the bubonic plague.
It lands facedown near the TV console with a loud thud. Unfortunately, the distance does nothing to muffle the telltale, slick and rhythmic noises of skin-on-skin or the pornographic grunts of masculine pleasure coming out of the loudspeakers, resonating against the walls of his too quiet house.
Eddie stares at the mobile device like it’s radioactive, the tip of his ears burning hot in embarrassment and delayed indignation.
What kind of sick fucking joke is this?
Badly-lit, homemade, amateur porn. Of the gay variety. Starring Buck and his boyfriend — his two closest companions these days. That's what Buck shared with him tonight for some depraved, incomprehensible reason. Because he's apparently a lunatic with no understanding of the concept of privacy or boundaries or socially acceptable behavior. Either that or Buck is experiencing a stroke, or being hacked, or this is his way of letting Eddie know he’s been kidnapped, or maybe it’s all a huge mistake they’ll maybe laugh at ten years from now when Eddie can remember this moment without wanting to gouge his eyes out of their sockets.
Eddie presses the heels of his palms into his lids until stars replace the afterimage seared onto his retina, and then prays for deliverance from this wretched, godless existence.
"Daddy," he hears, rough and saliva-garbled and pleading, and nope.
No.
Absolutely not.
Eddie scrambles for his phone so he can put a stop to the auditory torture. Since his life is a joke, the jump over the coffee table he attempts in his haste proves to be too perilous for his tipsy, uncoordinated limbs. His toes get caught in the folds of his area rug and he ends up a screeching, scandalized heap on the floor.
"Ow!" Eddie yelps, a few feet from his phone that is still taunting him with moans.
Once he finally manages to press the side button, Eddie collapses back on the ground, hands shaking with residual adrenaline. His screen is cracked and his knees are throbbing from the force of his fall, but silence sounds so blissful Eddie can barely find it in himself to be irritated.
He flips on his back and stares at the ceiling, suddenly exhausted.
Maybe Eddie is the problem. Maybe he’s an enabler who invited his own misfortune.
Buck has always been prone to over-sharing, but there had been a time early in his relationship with Tommy when he had acted unusually tight-lipped. In the spirit of unconditional support, Eddie had reiterated that nothing had to change between them — that Buck didn’t need to censor himself just because he was seeing a man.
(“So you want the details?” Buck had asked, eyebrows raised skeptically.
Eddie had made an unimpressed face in answer. “I never want the details, but it’s not like that ever stopped you before.”
“Your funeral,” Buck had said with a grin and a shrug, and then spent the next few minutes recounting the epic tale of his ‘tumultuous journey to rid himself of his gag reflex’. Eddie had listened in a mostly dissociative state, doing his best not to wince at the very descriptive portrait painted before his eyes until he’d realized Buck was messing with him by testing the limits of his tolerance.)
That had been only fair, since Buck is the type to readily lend an ear for ex-nun girlfriend troubles — and with minimal judgment to boot — but now Eddie is starting to regret the gesture. Maybe Buck had heard ‘you don’t have to keep it PG for my sake, I'm totally down with the queers’ and understood ‘if you ever need constructive criticism on the angles of your sextape, I’m your guy!’
Eddie briefly entertains the idea of sending Buck a vindictive voice message demanding he explains himself, maybe even relay the various ways he wants to throttle Buck for his crassness and his exhibitionist tendencies and his wild disregard for the sacred bonds of pseudo-brotherhood, but he still feels off-balance, and in the end Eddie chooses to resort to a less confrontational coping mechanism: drinking the trauma away.
He ignores the abandoned glass sitting on his side table to take long gulps of whiskey straight from the bottle instead. It's not the kind of liquor made to be chugged down, and the alcohol burns his throat all the way down his stomach, but he welcomes the flame, grateful for the physical distraction.
He’s working himself into an inebriated stupor when his phone starts vibrating like a hummingbird's wings, pinging madly with texts after texts.
When he unlocks the mobile with the apprehension of a soldier stepping into a minefield, it’s to find 42 new messages from Buck.
Eddie takes another fortifying swig of booze and opens iMessage.
The first ten text bubbles are strictly comprised of delirious keysmashing, confirming the inadvertent mistake hypothesis. That’s a relief: Buck hasn’t temporarily lost his mind to jealousy again and didn’t try to mark his territory because Tommy had taken Eddie to a WBC championship last week. Thank God for small mercies.
Eddie scrolls past them to read the more coherent ones.

the alchemy — athlete!chan x reader ; established relationship (0.9k words)
where’s the trophy, he just comes running over to me
olympic inspired fic
Chan told stories.
His hands, rough with hard work, held strength and sacrifices. Years of training manifested in his calloused palms, in the occasional cuts and bruises.
They were proof of his passion, his dreams, his ambitions.
It’s almost funny how that entire world he had crafted with tears and sweat and sacrifices all boils down to a single moment, to right now, under the watchful eyes of thousands. Maybe even millions.
On the other side stood a realm, a place he can reap the efforts he’d planted step-by-step. He can faintly see victory from where he’s standing.
The crowd is a blur of color and noise. There are hands with flags waving, faces of anticipation, voices that brewed with support. Chan can feel the weight of the entire stadium pressing against his chest.
There is drumming, and beating, and shouting, and cheers.
And then static.
He breathes in, the space falling away in consequence. There is only the wall of focus he’s just built for himself—only the track, the runway, the pole, the leap.
The bar was set higher than it had been on his first attempt. A podium finish was in his reach with the pole in his hands and the runway in front of him if he would just make this jump.
A sharp breath.
The faintest rustle of the uniform he’s wearing.
And then the low hum of static.
There is nothing but the vault.
His pulse is thudding in his ears, heartbeat echoing a steady beat of anticipation. The sound of his shoes hitting the ground seemed louder than it was earlier.
There was only one thing to do now.
Chan’s gaze falls straight to the landing zone. He zeroes in on the marks, the mat awaiting his landing, the exact moment the pole would bend, how his body should fly above the vault.
That entire world, the callouses in his hands, the roughness of hard work, the countless hours of repetition were all about to be reduced to that one line on the horizon.
His grip tightens on the pole, familiar yet too rigid for comfort. And then he’s at the starting line.
At a last effort of any fragment of comfort, he searches for you where you stand. You were there, always have been, with eyes holding softness, and hope, and comfort. Something no one else could ever replicate.
A flicker of a smile curves at his lips, and then, as if his body has always known the exact timing, his legs start to move. One step, two steps. One after the other. His speed picks up, his hands instinctively tighten around the pole as it digs into the ground beneath him, and then he flies.
Chan flies, and the crowd falls silent in anticipation.
His entire world spins in such a short amount of time, even stills as his body—taught with the thrill of possibility—twists. There is muscle memory in the way he soars in the air, the same air heavy with the taste of victory that wasn’t his yet.
Gravity takes over.
Everything else falls behind him. Flashbacks of late night practices, and crying, and thinking he’s not good enough. Moments when he’d almost given up. Days when he’d felt like his efforts were going nowhere.
You’d always been there to help him back up.
You. You. You.
Thud.
His body hits the mats, and the sound echoes for half a second.
Just like that, it was done. He had done it.
His breath comes back in quick bursts, heart hammering in his chest.
When the mat propels his body back up, he lands on his feet. And before he can really process the victory he’d been working upon, he’s already turning. Sprinting.
The only direction to go now was the stands, the only direction left was to you.
You. You. You.
His legs carried him faster, and faster, and the world moved in a similar slow motion as he was when he was flying. The cheering, the flashing lights of cameras, the explosiveness of the stadium, everything was abandoned in the background.
Chan barrels into you, arms pulling you into the tightest embrace he could muster. For a moment, nothing else mattered—the gold medal, the record, nothing. Except for the fact that he had made it, and you were there with him to see it happen.
“Channie” is the only word you can muster, voice thick as you loop your arms around his neck.
Apparently, it’s also the only word he needs to pull himself back, hands resting on your shoulders as if needing to anchor himself to the moment. His eyes look into yours for a split second.
His eyes told stories too. It was always his most honest and obvious tell. And right now, they were looking at you with so much love.
Yours, with pride.
“Baby—“
Without warning, his lips find yours.
You feel everything in one kiss. The adrenaline, the years of work, his entire world. Chan leans into you, breathing you in, feeling the surge of everything he had accomplished into someone that felt like home.
Fuck, you make him happier than any Olympic gold medal ever could.
Somewhere in the distance, the announcer’s voice rings out his name as champion, but all he can ever see and hear right now is you. It was done. He’d made the vault, now all he needed to do was hold onto you.
There’s plenty of time for the rest later, plenty of time for celebrations, for the podium, for the journalists.
Right now, it was only ever you and the bright smile on your face, and the same smile he’s mirroring on his own.
And right now, in this moment, Chan doesn’t have to jump to know what it feels like to fly.

Oil and Gas Safety Regulations, Safety Tips and Top Companies

In the present day, GCC claims to account for 40% of oil reserves and 20% of natural gas reserves in the world. With the prevalence of oil and gas industry in GCC, the region has observed a high incidence of associated crew fatalities and deaths in its hazardous environment. Based on a CDC report for 2014-2019, a quarter of the oil and gas extraction workers died in the GCC from vehicular accidents, (26.8%), contact injuries (21.7%), and explosions (14.5%).
Regulatory bodies like OSHA and safety standards of API and ISO are responsible for outlining the industry standards in safety and reinforcing their compliance to protect the workers and insure the industry.
Safety Hazards and Risks in Oil and Gas Industry
The above-mentioned standards are formulated by regulatory bodies to target the major risk factors to safety in the oil and gas industry, as listed below:
Machinery Accidents
Heavy machinery is a leading cause of industrial accidents since even the smallest mistake in handling the equipment can threaten the life or cost a limb to the workers. Some of the most common machines involved in this type of accident are cranes, drills, forklifts, boilers, disks, chisels, furnaces, and oil rig machines.
Vehicle Collisions
Vehicles that carry oil and gas cargo are yet another potentially hazardous threat. In absence of properly marked vehicle zones or lanes, the workers run a risk of fatal collisions in the vehicle zones. Some of the prominent reasons for these vehicular accidents are distracted or fatigued drivers. This is why it is essential to deploy proper vehicle safety.
Explosions And Fires
Flammable gases and liquids are a part of the daily routine for oil and gas industry workers. A lot of these compounds pose significant hazardous risks for the workers’ lives, some with long-term effects on the crew’s health. Thus, it’s important to handle explosive hazards with maximum safety measures that keep up with the recommended health and safety standards for the industry.
Slips and Falls
Working on high platforms with heavy machines, there can be a lot of slippery spaces and liquids that can cause workers to slip and break limbs. Serious injuries can include broken necks and spines, permanently incapacitating the workers.
Challenging Work Conditions
Workers at oil and gas industries are required to be on call and onboard day and night, across different seasons with consistent work schedules. While there is no direct association, such challenging work conditions and induced fatigue can often result in serious workplace accidents, unless steps are taken to optimise crew schedules.

Safety Tips in Oil and Gas Industry to Prevent Accidents and Reduce Hazards
In recent years, the oil and gas industry has recognised the importance of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) in their operations. Here are some recommended tips and practices that enable the industries to better comply with the regulatory standards and keep the “hazards” in the industry at minimum:
Installation of Explosion-Proof Cameras
Surveillance and monitoring is crucial for the efficient industrial operations, as well as to identify crew lapses, equipment issues, etc. and respond instantaneously. Explosion-Proof Cameras are an OSHA-mandate to promote safer work culture in hazardous environments of the oil and gas industry by ensuring “explosion-proof” surveillance and monitoring. The technology contains the sparks within the housing of the wire, prevents them from coming into contact with the volatile environment, and protects the industry from the resulting explosion.
Before investing in an explosion-proof solution, ensure that the cameras are ISO and ATEX certified to reliable protection.
Explore: Different Types of Explosion-Proof Cameras for the Oil and Gas Industry
Promoting the Use of PPE
Establish some mandatory oil and gas safety regulations like the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to insure your workers from everyday industrial hazards. Important PPE include hard hats and safety glasses to protect the workers in case of any collapse or items dropped from a height. Additionally, respiratory protection devices secure worker’s health by avoiding inhalation of dust, fumes, and gases released as end products at oil and gas industries. Finally, gloves and boots provide protection and prevent infection in case of injuries, cuts, and abrasions.
Inspection and Maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance of the industrial site is necessary to foresee any workplace accident and address it beforehand. The assigned managers need to ensure that the pipelines, rigs, and refineries do not have any leaks or damage and are complying with OSHA’s safety regulations to drastically reduce the fatality risk at the facility.
Hazardous Waste Management
Managers are required to take measures for efficient hazardous waste management to serve the dual purpose of crew health and site safety. Regulatory bodies outline several standards to minimise the environmental impact of the oil and gas industry. Compliance with these standards ensures that the crew is not directly exposed to the hazardous waste produced during the refining process, securing them from several health issues like respiratory problems, cancer, etc. Furthermore, addressing and attending to oil spills immediately evades the risk of major fires and explosions.
Emergency Response Planning
It is essential that oil and gas industries have an emergency response plan in place in case of emergencies. Training the workers for this protocol through a series of drills helps the management avoid panic and stampede in case of a real emergency, thus protecting the human resources - the key to all the operations in an oil and gas industry.
Compliance with the Regulatory Standards
As mentioned before, compliance to regulatory standards is non-negotiable in case of hazardous oil and gas industries. These local, national, and international regulations outline specific guidelines for drilling, transportation, emission control, etc. Failure to comply with these OSHA, API, and ISO regulations can result in severe fines for the company.
Other Measures
It is advised to mark vehicle zones with marking tapes or lines to avoid vehicle collisions with crew. To promote a safe working policy around heavy machinery, always use proper signs to attract the attention of the pedestrians. The company can also invest in explosion-proof safety lights to maximise the visual access of the crew in dark or low-light work conditions and thus prevent casualties in the oil and gas facilities functioning around the clock.
Conclusion
The listicles above outline the safety regulations and the importance of adhering to them, especially for the highly volatile oil and gas industry. Without adapting to the evolving technological trends, establishing a safe work environment can be extremely challenging.

Proof that dynamite has a heart, part two.
You needed to find him, to explain to him in anyway possible that he had gotten the wrong idea. You could pummel him so he was forced to listen….no he was too strong. You could write him a letter….hed just burn it up before reading it. You could call his mum….that was stupid, if he wasn’t going to listen to you theres no way he’d ever listen to her. You were lost, nothing could make sense to you in this moment, nothing came to mind to help you make him realise…until you heard footsteps behind you. It was the reporter, shakily holding his camera from his hands. He was recording all of that?! Youd just saved his life and he was broadcasting your most vulnerable moments to the entire world? You slammed your fist down, surrounding you in a cloud of smoke as you ran off, you were broken and angry, at the world, at him, at katsuki for not listening, at yourself for letting the reporter even get close enough to you to brush your face. Everything felt like it was burning up around you, you couldnt breathe, you couldn’t stop shaking, your whole world had been ripped away from you in an instant, and now everyone was going to think Katsuki was a monster for shouting at you.
You didnt know where to go, so you ended up back at his apartment. He wasn’t home, you could see this from the lack of light illuminating the windows, and the lack of explosions erupting from inside. You went in and fell straight onto his bed, screaming and crying into his pillow, desperately trying to decide if it was right for you to even be here anymore. Every tiny noise made you jump, terrified that he was going to come home and instantly blast you out of there. You write three notes for him, the first a long explanation as to what had happened, knowing it would probably be incinerated before it was read, the second a slightly shorter message apologising and asking to talk, that would also be blown up instantly. The last read,
‘Im sorry. I’ll leave you alone. I will always love you.’
With the ring placed ontop of it. You wanted to write more, wanted to pour your heart out, but you knew he was far too angry to read, to understand, youd ruined his life on live television without meaning to. You packed up all the little trinkets that you had scattered around his apartment, all the photos of you two together, all the silly little love notes he swore he hated but still kept in their places anyway, your fuzzy slippers and hair bands strew across the bathroom too, that he swore cluttered up the place. You eradicated anything that would remind him of you, you only left one photo on his desk, a photo of the both of you on your first day at his Agency. Youd forced him to take the photo, to prove to the world that he wasnt that scary, and that indeed dynamite had a heart. You kissed the faded photo of him and placed it back down on his desk, turning around and lugging your bags over your shoulders and leaving your key posted back through the door as you locked it. You knew he wasn’t the type to pine over you, he didn’t need constant reminders of you flooding his safe space, so you left no trace of your life together behind.
Youd assumed hed gone back to the agency to beat kirishima up to let his anger out, kirishima was always good like that, he let Katsuki use him as his emotional punching bag. He told everyone it was a way of making sure his quirk was as strong as it needed to be to be a pro hero, but you knew he was doing it to help Katsuki, to save him from burning up from the inside out. You wanted to ring him and explain what had happened, to beg for his forgiveness for hurting his best friend, as if youd done anything wrong, but you knew you couldnt. Not yet. You didn’t need Katsuki thinking you were sleeping with him too, he needed his best friend, you couldnt let anything get in the way of that. So you rang izuku, if anyone knew Katsuki it was him.
“Izuku, I need you. Im sorry it’s late, and I’m sorry we haven’t talked much in the past few days, I just…” You couldnt hold your tears back any longer, they were flooding your throat and your cheeks. “I can’t lose him, please.”
“I’ll be with you in a few minutes, meet me at the coffee shop by his apartment, it’s okay you won’t lose him.” Izuku was stern but soft spoken, he knew he needed to be there for you.
You stood tapping your foot against the floor as you leant against the building, your cigarette barely touched as it burnt out in your fingers. Izuku walked up to you and hugged you, embracing his arms tightly around you as you tried to stifle back your tears. He offered you a tissue to dry your tears, as you both continued to walk through the town.
“I can only imagine how badly he’s hurting Kirishima right now. I know he’s tough, but kacchans explosions are a next level type of brutality.” Izuku spoke sweetly, his green hair dancing in the wind as he tried his best to comfort you.
“Yeah, Im assuming he’s there too, I feel bad for forcing kirishima to put up with that shit..” Izuku interrupted you,
“You haven’t forced anyone to do anything, don’t worry. Be kind to yourself, you’ve done nothing wrong. I know it may seem like you’re the worst person in the world right now, but I promise you you’re not. Okay?” His sweet smile warmed your heart, you knew he was the best person to help you calm down, his demeanour was soft and kind, even if he didn’t have such immense power hed still be the most powerful hero around with that smile.
“Im gonna kill that report I swear…” You said looking at your feet, trying to get the picture of his face out of your head. Izuku stopped in his tracks, a finger to his chin as he mumbled to himself.
“The recording equipment is his quirk correct? Maybe he recorded the whole ordeal between you two? Maybe you could ask to get a record of it to show Katsuki, prove to him how it all happened?”
“You think either of them would listen to me right now?” You looked at him with half lidded swollen eyes, your desperation faltering at this proposal, there was not enough force in the world to get Katsuki to listen to you right now.
“Theres only one way to find out. You head to the reporter and I’ll head to kacchan, I’ll meet you at the agency in half an hour. I promise you I’ll get kacchan to listen to you, even if it means using reasonable force.” His smile quivered at his lip, his eyes tearing up as his determination shone through. You hugged him tightly and nodded, a small thank you managed to slip through your tight throat as he nodded and shot off towards his impending fight with Katsuki.
You managed to track down the reporter, pleading to him to let the footage free so you could show Katsuki that you didn’t want the kiss, didnt want the world to think youd cheated on him and worse yet, didnt want the world to think of him as a monster.
“And why would I do that? Our ratings are through the roof, everyone saw how he hurt you, they’re all furious at him for hurting his side kick, better yet his girlfriend. They don’t need convincing hes a monster, this was just the last final push to show them what they already feared. It means great things for you too, you rejected me and then became the wounded hero, left broken and bruised as the promise of marriage got ripped away from you. They love you! You’ll be the number two in no time…”His voice trailed off as he saw you drop to your knees, clutching your chest crying at his feet.
“Please…I can’t lose him. Hes everything to me. It’ll eat him up inside, it’ll shatter his heart. Please, he doesn’t deserve anymore pain, he’s been through enough.” You heard the click of the reporters quirk activate as you pleaded to him, looking up and being met with a camera lens an inch away from your face.
“What a sweet hero, begging to try save Dynamite, even thought he hurt her. This ladies and gentleman is what coercion in a relationship looks like, watch as she begs, tries to sacrifice herself to protect the man who hurt her. If you or anyone you love is being hurt by a partner then please dont refrain from calling the appropriate authorities.” The shock and anger became too much for you to handle. You grabbed the reporter by the throat and lifted him above your head as you let the flames engulf your other hand. You spoke directly to the lens in your face.
“This reporter is trying to destroy dynamites reputation by withholding important information. For the safety of the pro hero’s name, and the sanity of myself, I will now force him to active his quirk and show you the recording he has of him forcing himself onto me. I by no means condone the type of behaviour I am about to demonstrate, it is purely to clear dynamites name and show the world how cruel and misconstrued reporters can be. Im sorry.” And with that you reached your burning flames to the reporters chest, engulfing it entirely in warm sparks. Your flames weren’t particularly powerful in this instance, but you let them burn slightly hotter than youd wanted to, as his quirk activated and he replied the events that had caused the world to think dynamite had attacked you.
The world saw him advance you, you reject him, your declaration of love for dynamite, then Katsuki seeing everything from a distance. It was clear it had been misconstrued through the reporter, and what they all had thought was dynamite attacking you, was his frustration and anger at his own miscalculation of the events. You didn’t want everyone to see Katsuki being vulnerable, you knew he’d be beyond pissed at them seeing him nearly cry ontop of you, but you needed the world to see the truth. You went to dim your flames as the last of the recording played, but then it flicked to the reporter paying the villain money for his role in the carefully constructed play. He had planned this whole ordeal out, every moment, every tiny detail.
“You…you planned this? You planned our downfall for what….more ratings? The chance to potentially get your dick wet when I was beyond vulnerable? You’re a disgusting villain….” The flames burnt brighter as you clutched his neck harder in your fist. You wanted to kill him, wanted to make an example out of him, to show what really happens when you fuck around with hero’s lives. You were suddenly stopped as izuku and Katsuki shouted at you from behind you, carefully keeping their distance. You flicked your head to meet their gaze, lowering the reporter slightly as you saw how concerned izuku looked. You didn’t want them to see you as dangerous, but they looked at you with extreme caution and fear.
“Y/n, can you please put the reporter down? I spoke to kacchan and we saw the live stream, he believes you! Just, put your flames out, everything’ll be okay.”
Izukus voice shook, youd heard this tone before, he was talking to you like a villain. You felt disgusted in yourself, you lowered the reporter and extinguished your flames, falling to your knees and crying into your hands. Youd never seen that look of concern and anxiety in Katsukis eyes before, he truly thought of you as a threat in that moment.
Suddenly, as the reporter scrambled away from you, your whole body became engulfed in blue flames. You were too hurt, too broken, your quirk had become too much to handle, it had evolved into something unmanageable. You cried and screamed as your heart shattered inside your chest, not only had you lost your best friend, your future husband, but now there was no coming back from him looking at you like a villain. Your worst nightmares had been realised and played out right infront of you.
Your guttural screams shattered katsukis chest, as his feet moved before his mind, izuku tried to stop him but he was too fast. He burst through your flames as they scorched his skin, he dropped to his knees and held you against him. Your flames burnt the skin surrounding his forearms, his face, his chest, but he didn’t care. He winced through the pain and held you tighter, tears burning up before they could reach his cheeks. He sobbed into your head as you clung to him, desperately trying to put your flames out, but seeing they couldnt so easily be turned off, you started back away from him, screaming for him to leave you alone.
“Get back kats! I can’t turn them off! I can’t burn you like this, please, just run!” He grabbed your collar and pulled you into a passionate kiss. Your fire dancing around you both, now creating a circle forming around you both.
“Not a fucking chance, if you burn up then so do I, you fucking idiot. I love you, I have always loved you, and I will always love you.” As he embraced you and continued to cover you in kisses, your flames finally diminished, along with the help from izukus wind pressure. You lay in katsukis arms, burnt and breathing deeply, trying to get any oxygen you could, he looked down at you with burns singeing his own skin, as he whispered to you before you lost consciousness,
“How could I ever let the heart of Katsuki Bakugo ever burn up. You’re stuck with me now idiot, I’ll marry you and show the world that no one fucks with us, not now, not ever.”
You could see his smile fading away as your eyes fluttered closed, he really did believe you and izuku, he really did love you. If you died now, youd did happy knowing he loved you just as much as you loved him.

— late
This was completely inspired by a conversation I had with my friend about her kids.
Pairing: Bakugou Katsuki x f!reader.
Warnings: girl dad!Bakugou, established relationship, not proof-read as always.
Word Count: 1.1k.
Juggling family as a Pro-Hero in the top 10 is never easy. No matter what you do to ensure your plans go smoothly, crime doesn’t sleep— especially not when it’s your daughters fifth birthday.
“I hate you!” Is the last thing Bakugou hears before his daughters bedroom door is slammed shut, the silence after is deafening as you watch the colour drain from your husbands face.
His chest still heaving from the speed in which he rushed home, dirt and grime stain his skin as he stands dejected in the middle of the living room. Boots that are usually abandoned at the door trudge filth through your home as Bakugou stands statuesque in place.
“Baby,” You hum, reaching around his frame to bring him closer to you as you rest your chin on his chest to stare up at him, “You know she doesn’t mean that—”
“Course she does,” He rasps, “She said she fuckin’ hates me.”
You can tell from the slight lilt to his gruff voice that your big, strong husband is on the verge of tears. Bringing his arm up to rub at his blackened eyes with the ball of his hand, smearing the eyeliner along his cheekbones.
Bakugou was used to being hated, from the public to the media and the Hero Commission. It was usually something he could brush off with ease, laughing off angry emails or poorly written articles. But it was a different kind of hurt when the words had come from his own daughter.
“She’s hurting right now,” You soothe, tightening your grip on him as his Adam’s apple bobs, “She was just excited for you to be at the party, but she understands—”
Bakugou had booked this day off a year in advance, it was always the first thing he looked at on the calendar, even before your birthday. It was his daughters special day, and he was determined for it to be perfect. Fully embracing whatever theme she’d decided on for her celebrations— this year had been a Barbie theme that had left your home embellished in vibrant pink and glitter that would probably stay embedded into your plush carpets until her next birthday.
He’d spent the previous night carefully wrapping a custom Barbie doll in pretty pink paper as you prepared the house for her party. Bakugou had even picked out an entire hero outfit that was an on brand Barbie pink, instead of his usual colours that he was planning on surprising his daughter with.
But even with all these plans in place, and even arranging backup from his dutiful sidekicks at the agency— the life of a Pro-Hero is never easy. And just as Bakugou was preparing to change into his outfit for his daughters party, he was called into work. An emergency that superseded anyone working at his agency today, as the Hero Commission requested his presence in the field.
It’s not the first time it’s happened, and Bakugou knows it won’t be the last. Even a last minute phone call to Deku to take the lead wasn’t enough to save his day, as the Commission ended up calling both heroes to the scene.
Hours later, he was explosive and inconsolable. Telling the authorities to fuck the crime scene reports and statements as he shoved an unwitting reporter out of his face as their camera crashed to the floor, certain his PR team would be in his inbox about that incident first thing tomorrow morning. But he was completely uninterested in humouring any of them today, not when he could’ve been at home with his family.
Coming in through the front door as he finally realised just how late it was when the house was completely empty besides you and his daughter.
“I should’ve been here, she needed me—”
“The city still needs Dynamight,” You murmured, “What was the situation?”
“Bad,” He grumbled, “Shithead derailed a train in the city, had a group of school kids on it. One almost— the look in his eyes when he was fallin’.“
He trailed off, scrunching his nose as he thought back to the scene. You felt his arms wrap around your shoulders as he clung to you, leaning into your warmth as he tried to calm his racing heart.
“But he didn’t, right?”
He shook his head as you smiled, breathing in the scent of smoke and ash from his quirk as soot covered his body.
“Because Dynamight is a hero.”
“But not to my own daughter.”
“You’ll always be her hero, baby.” You soothe as he leans down to bury his face in the curve of your neck, deeply inhaling the scent of you.
“I’m a terrible dad,” His breath tickles your neck as you pull back to frown at him.
“Don’t you dare say that,” You scrunch your nose in irritation, “You’re the best dad, Kats.”
“If I was, I woulda been here for her.” He scoffs.
“You’re out there keeping us safe, keeping other kids safe. Making sure they get to go home to their dads too.” You cradle his face in your palms to press a soft kiss to his chapped lips.
The sound of little feet coming down the stairs breaks him away from you as you turn to see your daughter, still dressed in her full party outfit, standing at the bottom of the stairs.
“Hey, is that my little princess?” Bakugou rasps as she comes towards you both, crouching down to her height and adjusting the pink tiara that sits on top of her head.
“Barbie princess.” She whispers, holding a piece of pink paper out to him as he takes it.
“Barbie princess.” He corrects himself, moving his attention to the words words etched onto the page as he unfolds it.
‘I’m sorry I wouldn’t trade you for any other daddy in the world.’
A smile spreads across your face at the cute sentence as you feel the muscles in Bakugou’s back immediately relax, reaching down to lift your daughter up to hold her to his chest as her small arms immediately circle his neck.
“I’m sorry I missed your party, sweetheart,” He rasps, smoothing her wild hair down.
“I’m sorry too,” She sniffs, “I don’t hate you, daddy.”
Bakugou’s lips curl into a soft smile as he leans forward to press a kiss onto her cheek.
“I love you, princess.” He whispers, nuzzling her cheek with his nose.
“Love you too, daddy.” She smiles.
“But you know you can’t trade me anyway, right?” He frowns, pulling back to meet her gaze, “I’m your daddy and I always will be.”

Dove (part seven)
Leon Kennedy x female reader (bodyguard trope and the slowest, slow burn I swear)
Part one. Part two. Part three. Part four. Part five. Part six. Part seven.
---
A tense knot has formed right between Leon’s shoulder blades – can feel it pull when he tilts his head side to side, but it doesn’t seem to be loosening. Can’t even blame it on sleeping on the sofa cos he hasn’t laid down to sleep since the call with Hunnigan, stays sat up right. He’s athletic, he can jump up to his feet from horizontal but it’ll add a second or so to his reaction time and he’s not taking the risk.
He's on edge and he doesn’t like it. The ball of anxiety in his gut has saved his life more times than he can count, but it shouldn’t be necessary in this situation, should it? He’s set up in a safe house, literally off some beaten track in the middle of nowhere – location chosen and distributed by encrypted software so, technically, no-one in the DSO knows where he is either. It’s rigged up to the heavens with security measures - cameras, alarm systems, motion detector - explosion-proof windows, reinforced doors, all topped off with his favourite array of weapons in the duffel bag, currently resting by his still booted feet.
The objective of his mission hasn’t changed after the intel he’s received, that some foreign agency has had access to the CCTV feed for who knows how many hours before they were cut off. He should feel reassured that the quality of the footage was awful – it was only by how many times he’s encountered Lickers that he could even tell that’s what the creatures were when he’d be presented with the grainy images. He didn’t see the footage of you being rescued, but it would be a cruel kick in the gut to find that feed had been HD.
He lifts an arm – his left, keeping his right arm free, his accuracy is better by millimetres with his right – and rubs the knot, hoping to relieve the tension. It's not 100% confirmed they are looking or will be looking for you either, but why would anyone link up to the CCTV circuit if not to check on the outcome of their operation?
His immediate thought had been to up the frequency of his perimeter checks, one every two hours. He could do that at night, sure – military training taught him the correct and most efficient techniques to power nap – but in the day it would be harder without worrying you about what’s changed.
You wanted updates. Hell, you were entitled to updates. But he wants to give you good news, doesn’t wanna add to the weight on your shoulders with what could be nothing. It’s stupid, he knows it’s stupid, but in these sweet domestic moments the two of you have been sharing, he’s been pretending it’s something else – friends watching television, cooking a meal together – the sweet smiles the two of you exchange, but it’s all ripped apart the moment he has to do his checks. He can see the worry settle on your face then, a reminder of where you are with the flick of the safety off his gun and the twist of the lock as he goes outside to conduct surveillance.
Speaking of, his phone beeps for his next circuit on the building and he’s up on his feet in the blink of an eye. He pats his cargo pocket out of habit for the keys on the walk over to the garage door, but finds himself pausing outside your bedroom, his eyes focusing on the handle. You should still be pretty under with those sleeping pills – note to self, he’ll need to start weening you off them from now on, far too easy to get addicted. It wouldn’t hurt to just… check you were okay, would it?
No – that’s what you’re here, why he’s here – to protect you.
It would just be doing his job.
He presses down on the handle and slowly opens the door, breath caught in his throat. It takes his eyes a moment to adjust to the dark, the lamp in the living room not quite reaching as far as your bed, but eventually he can make out your face – as peaceful as he’s ever seen it.
You’re on your side. The position doesn’t look like it would be comfortable with your arm still strapped up in the sling, but it’s testimony to how well the sleeping pills are working. Your other arm is up by your face, hand clenched in a tight fist around something. He steps forward without thinking, curious what it could be.
Your fingers are gripped tightly around his watch.
And there’s a pain in his chest that feels like they’re gripped around his heart as well.
That settles it - he’s not gonna tell you about the hacked CCTV feed. He will tell you that Hunnigan hasn’t searched your place yet, that they’ve restarted the surveillance department – she’d asked him to ask you if you knew anything about the servers since they were appeared to be working from square one – but that was it.
Leon steps back with unnecessary caution, leaving the bedroom as silently as he entered and shuts the door with a soft click. He takes a deep breath, pats down his pockets again and heads out to circle the perimeter.
And, just like after you kissed his cheek, he does it twice.
--
You wake up after another peaceful and dreamless sleep, though it still takes a moment to remember where you are as you stare up at the unfamiliar ceiling. You wonder if tomorrow you’ll not experience that flicker of panic, just get up and accept that you’ll be picking today’s outfit out of a selection of clothes that you’re not sure if anyone’s worn before you.
You feel sore, as seems to be becoming the norm, but with unusually stiff fingers on your good hand. It seems you’ve clutched Leon’s watch all night. You’d fallen asleep quite quickly – all thanks to those sleeping pills – but you remember looking at it when you’d first got in the bed, the seconds ticking by lulling you to sleep. The fact that you’ve held it for so long reminds you of when you were a kid and snuggled up with a stuffed toy for comfort, except instead of something soft and cuddly, it’s what appears to be a top of line timepiece. There’s a lot of information contained on the face of the dial but there’s the time is the only one you really care about – 0906.
You get to your feet, raising your good arm to a grunt of protest as you try and run your fingers through your hair in lieu of a mirror. Huh, that pain’s new. Your hair is definitely due a wash now, but that’s an issue for later. You pull on a pair of sweatpants one-handed – you’ll be a pro soon, you’re sure of it – and put Leon’s watch in the pocket for safekeeping. It’d be difficult to try and navigate the door handle with it still gripped in your good hand and you’d hate to scratch it up.
You open the door cautiously – you hadn’t seen Leon asleep yet, but he must do at some point. Maybe you should offer to alternate the sofa and the bed? Though you have a feeling that he’s far too much of a gentleman to accept.
Or there’ll be something in the rules that prohibits that.
There’s no danger of waking him though - the agent in question is performing sit-ups in the middle of the living room floor, facing the other way. Muscular arms behind his head as he lets out little puffs of exertion at the exercise, alternating sides as he twists.
Wary that you don’t want to be caught staring, you shut the door with more force than necessary behind you and greet him with a smile when he looks over his shoulder.
“Morning, Leon.”
“Dove!” He doesn’t even sound out of breath. “Morning. Sleep okay?” He jumps up to his feet before taking a couple of steps over in your direction. There’s a grin on his face at the sight of you – makes you feel giddy.
“Yeah, thanks. How about you?”
“That’s good. Yeah, I slept fine.” He nods. It’s not a lie – he did sleep fine for the position he forced himself to maintain all night, despite the slight crick in his neck.
“Is that how you usually start your mornings?”
One of the arms you’d been admiring goes up to rub the back of his head again. “Kinda. I usually go for a run, but…”
“But you can’t leave me on my own.” You finish, smile dropping a little. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be - I’m not.” He drops his arm back down, casting an eye over a watch that’s not there. “Hey, you hungry? I can get breakfast started. Oatmeal again?”
“Sure.” You nod, fishing his watch out of your pocket and holding it out to him. “Thanks again for this. It was nice to wake up and know the time this morning.”
“Don’t mention it. You can, er, you know, keep it. If you like.” He can’t get the image of you fast asleep last night, clutching it close to your face. He knows it was most likely the sleeping pills meaning you’d just passed out with it in your hand more than anything deeper, but, hey, a guy can pretend.
“I’ll be okay, I can get the time off the TV during the day.” You hold it out again with insistence. “But maybe… maybe I could have it for the night again?”
“Deal.” Leon hastily agrees, his fingers brushing yours as he takes back the watch before fastening it around his wrist. “Breakfast coming right up.”
You take the opportunity to duck into the bathroom as he heads towards the kitchen – your heart warmed once more by the sight of the blob of toothpaste sat ready and waiting on your toothbrush.
--
“And, finally, oatmeal.” He places it down on the coffee table, alongside your coffee, a glass of water and your morning dose of painkillers.
“Thank you.” You lean forward to pick up the spoon, smiling back at the face that Leon’s drizzled in honey atop your breakfast again.
“Nah, pleasure’s all mine.” He calls over his shoulder as he picks up his own bowl from the kitchen. He hesitates for a second, before choosing to sit the other end of the sofa to you, rather than the opposite one.
“You know, I don’t get to do this very often. It’s nice.”
“Mm,” you swallow a spoonful of oatmeal. “Thought you said you’d been in lots of safe houses.”
“A fair amount. But, no, not that part. I mean, eating breakfast with someone.” “So…” You stir the spoon around the bowl, hoping it might prove a perfect segway into something you’d been wondering. “..there’s no-one at home for you?”
“Me?” He seems to scoff at the idea. “Nope.”
“Me neither.”
“Yeah, I figured.” He replies casually, before his blue eyes widen in alarm at how it might come across. “
“I mean, just by the fact that you hadn’t mentioned anyone at your apartment that morning and you hadn’t asked any of those sorta questions, you know, if they’d been told about what happened, where you are...”
He’s flustered, feels like he’s really putting his foot in his mouth this morning. He can take the lead in the interrogation of some of the world’s most despicable humans, for goodness’ sake, he should be able to talk to a pretty girl.
“Yeah, I figured.” You tease back and he swears he feels the weight lift off his shoulders.
The two of you eat in silence for a moment when curiosity gets the better of you. “So, you didn’t eat breakfast with the… others?”
“Nope.” His tone is firm as he recalls some of his previous charges. “Certainly didn’t make them it either. Trust me – they were nowhere near as nice or as deserving of my protection as you are, Dove.” The comment makes your head tingle.
“It’s all been people ‘realising’ how deep they’d sank but only grew a conscience to save their own skin. Hell, you might have even performed surveillance on some of them. A lot of criminals finally show backbone when they realise their time is running out.”
“Well, I’m glad to make a change – both for sharing breakfast and …safe house occupancy with.”
“A nice change,” he mumbles, but you still hear.
--
After breakfast, you go to shower and Leon sets himself to task with the dishes once again, says he did his last perimeter check before nine. Removing the sling proves trickier than yesterday – when you go to tug off the Velcro your opposite shoulder smarts with a similar pain of that morning, causing you to hiss through your teeth, something which the painkillers from breakfast don’t seem to have alleviated.
You step into the cubicle after undressing – the hot water immediately somewhat soothing on your bruised shoulders but you still struggle to get what you now deem as your good arm high enough to even entertain the possibility of washing your hair.
You try and avoid your reflection in the mirror when you dress, though you know you’ll have to confront your hair at some point. Unfortunately, you catch a glimpse – a greasy mop sat upon your head that makes your heart sink.
There must be a trick to it – other people must wash their hair one-handed all the time, but maybe they can lift an arm above their head. If you were home, you’d go to a salon, you think – an expensive you would deem necessary for your sanity.
A thought flashes across your mind – a ridiculous one. Leon is already doing so much for you, surely this would be completely over the line.
But you could… ask, couldn’t you? The worst he could do was say no, it would be awkward, and maybe there’s a hat in the duffel bag you’ve yet to discover.
You open the bathroom door, but don’t make to step over the threshold. Leon looks over from the sofa – dishes now drying in the rack besides the sink - and clocks your hesitation.
“Need a hand with the sling?”
Are you really going to ask him this?
You’ll break at some point - you know you will, so why not get it over with now? You’re a regimented two-day wash kinda girl and it’s day three. Not to be completely vain, but you’re covered with bruises and cuts, dressed in less than flattering clothes that aren’t yours and it would be nice to feel somewhat decent about something in your appearance.
Especially with the handsome company you’re keeping. Hell, Leon could be a model, a hair model too. There’d been shampoo and conditioner in the shower and you certainly hadn’t used it.
“Dove?” You’ve taken too long to reply again, getting stuck in your spiralling thoughts.
“I know this isn’t what you’re here for.” The words tumble out of your mouth before you can think further.
“Okay…” Leon's eyebrow is raised, a curious smile now fixed on his lips as he gets to his feet.
“And say no, obviously. Please. Just… I’d like to wash my hair.” You drop your eyes then – maybe it’ll be easier if you talk to your feet rather staring into his kind eyes?
"Right."
“And I’d… You know, I’d go to a salon and get it done there if we weren’t… here.”
“You’d like me to help you wash your hair?” There’s a tone of amusement or maybe disbelief in his tone.
Hearing him say it aloud makes you doubt the entire exercise, your heart begin to pound at your stupidity. “Sorry. No, I don’t know what I was thinking. It was stupid to ask-“
“Hey, no, it makes sense.” He soothes, immediately wanting to ease your frustrations. “You can’t lift your arm above your head, right? My fault for not thinking about that.”
You look up then, seeing the sincerity on his face – like it truly was his fault that you couldn’t wash your own damn hair.
“I can do that, Dove. I don’t see why not.”
“Are you sure?”
“Mm-hm. As you said, if you were anywhere else right now, you could go to a salon and whilst I can’t promise their quality, I seem to do all right with my own.” He shrugs. “You thinking over the sink?”
He doesn’t know why he asks – it’s hardly like you’re going to ask him to get in the shower with you.
Is it?
“I think so.” You look around the living area, though you’re well acquainted with what feels like every square inch of it now. “Though it might be a little awkward since we don’t have any chairs.”
He snaps his fingers. “Nah, there might be one in the garage, actually. Lemme check.”
He barely makes it into the garage when his cell vibrates in his pocket – one new message from Hunnigan.
Any server information for me?
Leon finds the folding chair nestled at the side of the washer and dryer and hesitates over the text back.
He’ll wash your hair – seeing how torn up you’d been about even asking him had made him feel awful - then he’ll give you the updates and ask about the servers.
He picks up the chair and tucks it under one arm, swiftly typing out a message on his cell and clicks send.
Not yet – Dove’s still asleep.

Paper Clips Make Good Lock Picks- part two
Part 1
"Still going to ignore me?"
...
"Okay okay you got me. Let's get out of here first. We have an hour and a half before another teacher comes in and watches us for the last 15 minutes."
"What's your name?"
Oh, Danny forgot to introduce himself huh?
"Danny."
"No last name?"
"You haven't made it far on the friends list"
"Wow friends already? We just met"
"You're breaking out of detention with me. You picked a lock for me, that's called being friends."
"Do you make all your friends by committing crimes together?"
"Only the best ones"
Danny smiled before walking out and checking the hallway side to side. All clear.
He waved Tim over and out of the classroom.
"You know this whole hallway is under watch right? There's cameras here."
"They don't work."
"What?"
Danny laughed a little before signaling Tim to follow after him against the wall.
"You didn't know? After school hours certain cameras shut down. In fact, a lot of them are broken and they never paid to get them repaired. That's why they accept bribes. They lie about having proof of crimes, works every time."
"What are you talking about?"
Danny groaned. Of course Tim didn't know about this, he was one of the rich kids they'd exploit. Danny as well as the other kids who were here off of scholarships or special deals knew about the tactic and had ways to avoid it, but rich kids like Tim didn't need to avoid it. The halfa cursed at the unfairness of life.
"Of course you don't know. The teachers here scam the rich kids. They accuse them of crimes they didn't commit and because their parents never care for proof, only reputation, they bribe them right away without even asking for the evidence. It's happened so many times and it's why when actual problems happen it's swept up under the rug."
"Are you serious?"
"Uh yeah dude. Usually kids like me try their best to avoid it. Meaning don't fight back, don't stay after school, don't go to the bathroom for anything other than an emergency, and don't talk back to any teachers at all. Those are the basics when you're not as rich as everyone else."
"So that's why you're so adamant on being framed, but couldn't you just ask them for proof it was you?"
"Not that easy. I don't have a guardian, I'm a 'charity case' as they say it."
He practically spit out that last part. Utter disgust in his tone.
"No parents, no money, no dice. If I don't find proof myself and publicize it or threaten em with it, I'm stuck for a year. I have things to do you know"
"Like blowing up chemistry labs?"
Tim teased. Danny gave him a look over his shoulder and rolled his eyes.
"Ha. Ha. Ha. You're so funny Tim! I wonder if Andys laughing in the hospital."
"He deserved it."
"And I'm innocent."
The two just stared at each other before Danny laughed and turned back around, continuing his walk. Tim chalked up the whole conversation as something to investigate later at home. His new "friend" was turning out to be a lot more interesting than he let on.
"So this is you searching for clues? Have you gotten anything since you started"
"Well as I was saying earlier all the cameras in the hallway leading to the lab don't work at certain times, and the ones that were IN the lab are completely unsalvageable. And at the time of the explosion the usual delinquent students - Anderson included - were out of class."
"So they're the prime suspect, no chance of it being anyone else?"
"Not many motives. If someone was using it for an outside project they didn't have permission, and other than that it's just the love of destroying and messing around."
Danny had led them through the school, taking twists and turns Tim couldn't recognize, eventually they had stopped at a roadblock. The hallway ended where a giant white tarp lay hanging from the ceiling. Caution tape was draped from each side to the other.
"Where are we?"
"The scene of the crime."
Danny smiled before walking towards the plastic covering and picking it up from the ground and waving Tim over. Tim sighed before looking around and following after him, shaking his head on the way over.
"Don't act all disappointed in me, you're literally following me"
"I may have just met you today but I'm convinced that it I left you alone you'd somehow either die or blow something up"
Oh how Tim didn't know the truth to that statement. Danny gasped and placed his hand over his chest all dramatically, taking false offense.
"I'll have you know death cannot take me! It has tried and failed. Plus, we've been over this, I'm innocent!"
Tim didn't even want to unpack the first part of that. Logically it could be an exaggeration, but something about it felt a little too real to his senses.
"Whatever, you felon."
"Delinquent."
"Fair, now let's get going"
The roles had reversed as Tim took the lead instead. Danny let him despite having been here multiple times over the last few weeks. Maybe Tim would see something he couldn't.
“So what are you hoping to find?”
“Proof of my innocence, or proof of their crimes.”
“Isn’t finding their crimes easier? Considering a lot of people already know about it.”
“Well yeah, but that’d turn back on me.”
“How so?”
God, Danny wanted to punch him.
“Because they’d flip it on me and say how did I get the information? They’d accuse me of stealing and breaking and entering. They’d say that a delinquent child like me who hasn’t got good influences in my life would resort to just about anything to get out of punishment-”
“That’s a bit specific, don't cha think?”
“Well I’ve had similar things happen to me before”
Creepy boy with creepy powers rang in his head, he ignored it.
“Anyways, how am I even going to get that stuff? The principal's office has all of that information and the cameras there are fully functioning and top quality. Plus, how am I supposed to get into their computer? I don’t know the password and I can’t hack shit for the life of me. Programming I can do, but that? Whole new haunt.”
“Haunt- you know what? I’m not going to question that.”
“Good. We’re running out of time anyways. Choosing all the hallways that don’t have cameras or ones that work took a while. We need to wrap this up in 20 and then go back the way we came.”
Tim nodded and walked a bit faster towards what used to be the chem lab. There was more plastic screening in the way, but it was easily bypassed by the two.
“There’s no one here.”
“They only do construction on this place during school hours two times a week.”
“Why? That’ll take forever.”
“Exactly.”
Tim’s questions were getting to Danny at this point. While the halfa acted all knowing in the beginning, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s actually clueless beyond what he discovered on his own. He doesn’t know why they’re prolonging the construction, it’s probably another scheme of theirs- or if they’re lucky, an extensive cover up. Danny, in all honesty, just wants to be able to go home to his little trash heap of a living space in Crime Alley and sleep.
Tim moved forward, being way too careful. Danny knew he was oddly silent, but he could still hear the other, so he didn't question it. Superhuman hearing for the win!
“Why is the construction flowing this way? The back of the room is close to being done, but the front is still in complete disarray. They shouldn’t be doing parts of the room, but the whole room in steps.”
Yeah, Danny couldn’t answer that one. At this point, he was just assuming that Tim had to verbalize his questions when answering them himself. He didn’t reply, and with the way the other didn’t ask again or even look at him, Danny was right. He was content to just let his detention mate do his thing, lord knows Tim’s smarter than Danny anyways.
Tim stepped forward cautiously. The ground was still slightly unsteady considering only like 15% of the room had the floors replaced. Now that Danny thought about it, that was weird. He may be clueless about anything other than ghosts and space, but even he knew that foundations were placed first. This is a dangerous and even unsafe way to do construction. Why repair one part of the room first and then bleed out? Was something hidden in that area? Plus, there was still debris from the explosion-
“What do you think they’re hiding?”
“We’re about to find out.”
Wow, Tim was really invested now. Danny would have just gone back by now and visited tomorrow, but Tim is full on interested.
All that was left to do was follow the rich kid further in the room.
“Careful some of the paint is wet.”
Danny didn’t even want to ask how the other knew that from this distance. Danny could tell, but again, super human senses, Tim? Fully human. It didn’t really matter that much though, so he just followed him further and stepped around certain tiles.
Tim started inspecting just about everything. Nothing was safe. Every piece of wood, every corner, every point in which two colors met- the guy even pulled out a leveler. Where did he get that? You know what? Didn’t matter. Danny was giving his best in minding his business. If it got him set free? He’d ask zero questions- consider his curiosity swallowed.
“Tim, we have to go. We’re almost out of time.”
“Is it just me or is this cement not level, and doesn’t the drywall seem incorrect to you?”
Tim finally turned back to Danny, breaking out of his investigator mode. The halfa sighed before stepping over to where his new friend was, taking a closer look at what Tim was pointing out. He was right. The cement was uneven against the wall. It was strange considering Chemistry labs required tile flooring. The tiles wouldn’t go well if it wasn’t steady. Plus, the walls were supposed to be in levels: cement, then insulation, then final layer (could be anything really). The drywall set up wasn’t screwed in correctly, and Danny was pretty sure he could see the insulation in some parts. Considering special tiles or substances had to be used over the drywall to make the chemistry lab safe and usable, it wasn’t a good base.
Okay, Danny will admit, maybe he did do a little bit of research into chemistry labs. It was a rabbit hole he couldn’t escape when listening to Mr.Lanch drag on and on about the 5 page essay due in a month. He was bored, sue him. He was used to being attacked by ghosts everyday, this place was tame. Sure, it was exhausting, but it was still interesting.
“This isn’t right. The concrete has cracks in it.”
“So?”
“The school is supposed to use epoxy for the flooring, but for that to work the cement underneath it has to be perfect. This is far from that.”
“But they’re doing tiles, not resin.”
Tim gave Danny a look, and it honestly made him feel poor. Epoxy flooring was expensive- like really expensive- Danny has never seen it before that’s for sure.
“Danny, the school has enough funding to make 20 of these labs with the highest grade. Tuition alone is insane amounts, even for the rich. The facilities the place offers should be of the highest quality. Even if the floors have to get replaced every few years, it states on the website that it’s supposed to be epoxy.”
Tim took what seemed to be a thousand photos of the area, getting every little detail.
“Hmm, sounds like they’re cutting corners to cut costs. Leave it to the corrupt.”
“Alright, I got what we needed, let's head back.”
“Thank the Ancients. We’re gonna need to hurry, you know. We took too much time.”
Danny was quick to retrace the steps he took entering, ensuring no more tracks were left. Tim followed suit, and soon enough they were back into the maze of Hallways. This time with Tim leading the way. How the other knew it already when he’d only been through it once was beyond Danny, but again, he wasn’t gonna question it.
Questioning others gave them a way to ask you questions in return, and Danny wasn’t too keen on answering anything personal.
.
.
.
“Made it!”
Danny laughed as he slumped in the first seat, dead tired from the way they ran after seeing the clock. They were 10 minutes away when the clock showed they had 5 minutes until a check in. To say they ran would be an understatement. The way the two of them jumped down those stairs would surely raise many questions if Danny was keen to ask, but hey, maybe Tim was one of those ‘do every hobby known to mankind’ rich kids.
Well his new friend was fit, at the least. Tim hadn’t even broken a sweat, only slightly breathing a little heavier. Danny wished. As a ghost he didn’t have such things as stamina, there was no out of breath when you don’t breathe. As a human, however, he was stuck with meager capabilities he gathered up from running away from bullies and fighting off ghosts with watchful eyes. Seriously, he needed to do whatever Tim was doing (just cheaper).
Funnily enough, the second Tim sat down a seat away from him, Mr.Lanch entered the room.
“I see you two have moved. I hope you didn’t cause any disturbances.”
He said while looking directly at Danny. Danny was sure to keep a tight smile on his face, hiding his clenched fist under the desk next to his thigh.
“No way, sir. I just needed some help on that essay we have. You know I’m a little-”
“Behind, yes, I’m aware. Don’t distract Mr.Drake, he has well enough to do on his own. Am I clear?”
“Yes, yes. Sorry, won’t happen again.”
“Now apologize to Mr.Wayne for bothering him.”
“He wasn’t a bother.”
Tim interrupted, and Danny swore Tim looked annoyed. How come?
“Excuse me?”
“Danny wasn’t bothering me, Mr.Lanch, I was happy to help.”
There was an attitude in his tone, a bit of sharpness that Danny could pick up. He couldn’t for the life of him understand why.
“Yes, well, an esteemed individual such as yourself mustn't get too involved with the likes of him.”
Was this guy for real? Not even bothering to hide the blatant discrimination. Danny refrained from rolling his eyes, his fist clenching ever so tighter, making indents in his skin.
“What may that mean, Mr.Lanch.”
“Mr.Drake, I’m sure you are well aware that people like… him are not the best influence on those such as yourself.”
Danny could feel the rage bubbling under Tim’s skin- being a sort of empath had its perks.
“People like him? I am unaware as to what exactly you mean by that.”
Yeah, this was going to continue escalating. Danny cleared his throat, making both of them look over at him.
“I’m sorry Tim for bothering you earlier. It won’t happen again, don’t worry.”
“That’s better like it, now, I will return when time is up. Good day.”
And with that, Mr.Lanch left the room, making Danny sigh in relief. He sunk into his seat and rubbed his fingers over the crescents in his palm.
“Why did you do that?”
“What?”
Tim gave him an annoyed look.
“Apologize.”
“It’s not that important, Tim. It’s easier on me if I just do what he asks. As long as I don’t get punished too badly it’s fine.”
“Didn’t we just return from trying to prove your innocence?”
“That was different from this. A year of detention and being banned from any labs for the rest of highschool is way too drastic to just take it. I have a thing called a job, Tim, I can’t be here when I could be working. Not all of us have people making food for them anytime they want.”
This was ridiculous. Seriously, Danny may care about justice and all that jazz, but he made a promise to- well- Jazz that he’d finish highschool and do it right. He couldn’t start problems when he already barely got in from this alone. Tim would be fine anywhere he went, Danny wouldn’t, and that’s just the truth. He couldn’t punch his way out of this one, and he accepted that the first month in. It really was Casper high part two, but instead of the treatment being because he was the weird kid, it was because he was the poor orphan. Not much better, now, was it.
Tim finally shut his mouth. Danny allowed himself to roll his eyes before putting his head down on the desk. 10 minutes until freedom.
Day one was finally over.
